The California Heights area of Long Beach is one of the best kept secrets when looking for a historic home in the Long Beach area.  Many buyers when the first come to town often look in the Belmont Shore and Belmont Heights area of Long Beach due to it's close proximity to the beach and the large number of historic properties located there.  As with any beach town the closer you are located to the beach the higher the real estate prices tend to be.  A much more affordable historic neighborhood in Long Beach is the California Heights area.  If you have ever driven through Long Beach on the 405 going north then you have passed this area as it's located just north of the Long Beach Airport and on the east side of the 405 freeway.

Some of the first homes built in California Heights date back to 1909 according to our sales records of properties to come on the market for sale in our Multiple Listing Service.  During the 1920's there was a large number of properties built here often in the Spanish Colonial archictrual style as pictured below.  A good number of these homes were built between 1925 to 1931 with building picking back up around 1936 to 1939 where you will find a lot of homes constructed during these times.  After that point building continued through the 1940's and 1950's with many smaller beach cottages built and then tapered off until the late 1970's to early 1980's when a fair number of homes were constructed.  Current real estate prices range $739,000 for a two bedroom home with 1,063 square feet to $949,900 for a three bedroom home with 1,614 square feet.  If you are lucky enough to find a home covered under the Mils Act then you can save additional money on yearly taxes.  For information on buying a historic home in California Heights please contact any of our local Long Beach Real Estate agents today.
