Long Beach is well known for it's historic homes that were built in the 1910, 20's and 1930's.  These are typically built in the Spanish and Bungalow architectural styles and often can be found in historic districts like Belmont Shore, Belmont Heights and Bluff Park.  There is another class of architecture that has a very strong following are homes built in the mid-century modern style.  These homes are often built in the 1950's and 60's and feature one level of living space with high vaulted ceilings and open floor plans.  Here is our quick guide on where to look for these unique homes found throughout the city of Long Beach, California.

The El Dorado Park area is a great place to start when looking for mid-century modern homes.  One of the most recognized architects in the 1950's was Cliff May who built a lot of these great homes.  There is a neighborhood called "Rancho Estates" that is located just north of the park area and has a large number of these one story homes.  Common elements found in the homes is an interior courtyard, floor to ceiling windows and a raised roof that allows for vaulted wood beam ceilings.  Currently there are two homes on the market now that range from $729,000 to $849,000.

Another neighborhood would be the La Marina Estate community which is located just south of the El Dorado Park area near the California State University of Long Beach.  Homes in this area also date back to the 1950's and feature one story homes that exhibit many common elements found in the mid-century modern style.  Since the area is located closer to the Pacific Ocean the real estate prices tend to be higher than that of Rancho Estates.  One home is currently on the market for sale at $1,275,000.

Finally, the Lakewood Plaza is another great area to look.  This will be the less expensive of the three as the location is situated in the very north section of the city.  This area has tons of one story homes that were often built in the 1950's and 60's.  They are typically smaller and don't have the grandeur of luxury mid-century modern homes but still offer a lot of charm and personality to them.  Real Estate prices in this section of Long Beach will be right around the $500,000 to $750,000 range depending on the size, condition and location of the home.  We have gathered the current list of mid-century modern homes that are currently available for sale below.  Please contact us with any questions as we are here to assist you!
